Proverbs 9:10 AMP “The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence]…“
reverence: an attitude of deep respect, characterized by actions of veneration expressing deep regard
v.10 (continued) “And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.“
To be without reverence, means to be without wisdom, because:
The reverent fear of the Lord (worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome
is the beginning and preeminent part of wisdom.
The relationship of reverence to wisdom causes reverence to be much like a commandment, as we are commanded to get wisdom – and wisdom cannot be obtained without reverence.
Proverbs 4:4-7
v.5 “Get wisdom, get understanding:”
v.7 “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.“
Through the scriptures, it can be understood that the Lord wills not only for us to know Him, but to reverence (respect, venerate, worship, and regard) Him as truly awesome (Holy).
