True Love is a positive response to God’s Love. God’s Love is displayed to believers through the life and testimony of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 22:37-38, Jesus gives the first and great commandment, which is: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
In conditioning one’s self to attend to the first and great commandment, one must understand that Jesus is the Way to the Father (John 14:6); and that the Love of God in a believer’s life is manifested by the Holy Spirit, while embracing the Son, Jesus (John 14:26, Romans 5:5).
In John 14:15, 21, and 23 – Jesus said:
v.15 “If you Love Me, keep My commandments.”
v.21 “He that has My commandments and keeps them, he it is that Loves Me..”
v.23 “If a man Loves me, he will keep My words..”
After instructing the disciples to Love Him by keeping His commandments, Jesus presented His personal testimony and standing example for believer’s in verse 31:
“but that the world may know that I Love the Father; and as the Father gave commandment, even so I do.“
Jesus demonstrated His Love for the Father in obeying His commandment. So likewise, believers demonstrate their Love for the Lord by receiving His commandment (by His Word and the voice of His Spirit) and being obedient to do (John 4:23-24 – worshipping Him in Spirit and in Truth).
Love Jesus.
“34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:34-35
