Ephesians 3:14-15
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named“
What is the significance of a name?
A name is one’s reputation, representation, authority, and title.
For God, His Name represents His love and character; His will and purpose; His honor and glory; the Word of God; God’s Grace; His wisdom, power, and goodness; the service and worship due to His name; as well as, every other part of God Himself.
For the Body of Christ, Ephesians 3:15 says the whole family in heaven and earth is named of God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. What does that mean? Well, it means believers in Christ have been brought into association with the Name of God, and everything that He represents!
II Timothy 2:19
“Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.“
Through Christ, God has brought us out of the house of bondage and enslavement to sin, into the house of a new Master and Lord – Christ. In that, He has also given us a new Name. We do not any longer identify with sin, but with Jesus Christ!
By accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, believers have been restored by His righteousness and brought into the house of God (Psalms 84:10; Rev. 3:12). We have taken on and inherited His Name. We are Christ’s representatives (II Cor. 3:3, 5:20). Glory!
As the Body of Christ, believers should be earnest to make sure that the representation we give is TRUE of the Lord – not giving false representations; but yielding ourselves to the Spirit of God to show people Who Christ really is (Romans 5:5). Our Name is Christ! We are Christians!
Be encouraged in knowing “Who you represent”, or more emphatically, “WHO REPRESENTS YOU!” (I Peter 4:14; Prov. 22:1; Eccles. 7:1). Believers have an awesome privelege to be associated with the Name of Jesus – the Name that is above EVERY name (Eph. 1:21).
Philippians 2:9
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him (Christ) and given Him the Name which is above every name“
In Revelation 3:12, Jesus says:
“He who overcomes.. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God.. And I will write on him My new name.“
Awesomeness! I thank you, God, for a new name!
Amen!
