Get Ready!

Job 38:3 NKJVNow prepare yourself (gird up your loins) (get ready) like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.” (See Also: Job 40:7 and 42:4-6)

Ready yourself to respond to God freely and without hindrance or distraction – to do whatever it is that He may require you to do. Just as people in Bible times would “gird up their loins” by gathering up their long robes and tying them around their waist so they could run and move freely and quickly, we need to do the same with our mind to keep a fixed focus on the things of God.

I Peter 1:13 NKJV says “Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ”

Other translations of I Peter 1:13 say “get your mind ready for action.” Getting ready in this way involves eliminating any thoughts or behaviors that would cause us to stumble in our walk with God, and focusing on things that allow us to serve Him successfully (with confidence). To be sober means to use mentally and spiritually sound judgement; to be serious and aware. Our focus should always be in anticipation of the return of Jesus Christ.

Renewing our minds in God’s Word and being sober is how we secure the vulnerable areas of our lives where the enemy would try to grab hold of, exploit, and use against us. Get ready! Be sober and keep a focus and attention on the Word of God so that you can run your race without hindrance or distraction.

Philippians 4:8-9 NKJVFinally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
